Hanson County is in the James River valley, its northern portionextending into the artesian basin. As the greater part of the countylies on the summit of the old buried ridge of Sioux quartzite, theDakota sandstone is mostly absent. In the part of this area north-east of Mitchell, northwest of Spencer, east of Ethan, and on James R. 59 W R. 58 W. 57 LEGEND .£.
