For instance, Ihave had the opportunity of following nine cases of sarcomaof the fenmr throughout their whole clinical course. Allthe patients died within a year of operation from dissemi-nation of the tumour or from local recurrence. In thecase of the tibia I have known several patients, who have 84 CONNECTIVE-TISSUE TUMOURS survived amputation of the leg for periosteal sarcoma, tobe alive and in good health five years later (Fig. 47). A very large proportion of central tumours of the tibia,formerly classed as sarcomas, now rank with myelomas,and I am inclined to think that spindle-celled and round-
