Cretaceous tree ferns. Artwork showing several Tempskya tree ferns, depicted in the Lower to Mid-Cretaceous Period. These plants could reach six metres in height and half a metre in diameter. Tree ferns are an ancient form of ferns that evolved from low-lying forms to tree-like forms with trunks. This genus went extinct, though other tree ferns still exist today.
