Grasshopper (Titanacris albipes). When disturbed, this large grasshopper will launch into an erratic flight, displaying its small green forewings and larger pink hindwings in order to frighten predators. It lives in grassland and open woodland in South America. A typical European grasshopper (right), measuring 2 centimetres, is shown alongside it. Specimen obtained in Petit-Saut, French Guiana.
