General Craufurds command post: The windmill at Bussaco, location of a famous battle of the Napoleonic era.


The Battle of Buçaco or Bussaco, fought on 27 September 1810 was a decisive battle during the Peninsular War. Under the command of Lord Arthur Wellington a combined force of 25,000 British and 25,000 Portuguese troops repulsed five succesive attacks of 65,000 French soldiers under command of Marshal André Masséna. From the historic windmill General Robert Craufurd directed the fire of the Light Brigade.
