Leaves lanceolate or Hnear-lanceolate, obtuse at the apex, sessile or the lowest sometimes short-petioled, pubescent, 1-3' long; branches and petioles very pubescent; inflorescence usually contracted; stamens often S; fruit narrowly obovoid, the ribs obtuse, pubescent, sometimes with low intermediate ribs in the furrows. Leaves broadly ovate to oblong, 2-4' long, 1-3' wide, acute at the apex, cordate, rounded, truncate or narrowed at the base, ail petioled except the small bract-like uppermost ones, glabrous or nearly so; peduncles and pedicels commonly pubescent; pedicels 6' long or less; involucre shorter than the flowers; perianth red; stamens 3-5, ; style exserted; fruit oblong or narrowly obovoid, very pubescent.
