G. Minty,Major Horace Gray, Commanding. Mintys Brigade, Cooks Division, Cavalry Corps. On the morning of September 18, 1863, this regiment with its brigade metthe advance of Bushrod Johnsons column on the east slope of Pea VineRidge, successfully delaying for ten hours the crossing at Reeds bridge of alargely superior force of the enemys infantry and artillery; thus materiallycontributing toward the defeat of the Confederate design to crush the leftwing of the Union army. September 19, guarded the movement of trains toChattanooga. September 20, successfully engaged the enemy at Reed Housebridge, on the Ringgold road. On the 21st and 22d assisted in covering themovement of the army to Chattanooga. REMARKS Of Brevet Major Gen
