Icebergs in a glacial lagoon. This is Jokulsarlon Ice Lagoon, Iceland. The lagoon and icebergs have been formed from meltwater and ice from the large Vatnajokull Glacier. Parts of the glacier and the surrounding mountains are seen in the background. The black colours come from rock debris (morraine) eroded from the mountains by the glacier. The lagoon formed during the 1930s as the glacier started to melt and retreat inland from the coast. The lagoon outlet flows into the nearby sea. The blue/grey colours of the glacial ice and meltwater makes the lagoon a major tourist attraction.
