Weary from long travel, Archbishop Ireland arrived in Buffalothe very morning of the funeral. He had no manuscript and butlittle preparation of any kind. His splendid discourse was there-fore entirely impromptu. His text was Revelations xiv., 13:Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from hencefcrth:Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labors, andtheir works do follow them. For cen-turies in Gods Church this popular verdict was the sole base ofcanonization, and surely that popular acclaim is made manifestto-day in this your city of Buffalo. The ecclesiastics.
