Title page for 17th century almanac. Dated 1686, this almanac was written by William Davis of Ludgershall, near Andover, Wiltshire, England. An almanac is an annual publication of tables of data, including calendar dates and common astronomical and geographical information. William Davis was active in the years 1687 to 1692. He was a pill-maker, an astrologer, a surveyor, and a teacher of mathematics. The title page text describes the contents, including positions of the Moon, times for solar and lunar eclipses, the dating of Easter, and describing the position of the Pole Star relative to Ludgershall.
