A US Navy (USN) SH-60H Seahawk helicopter, Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 14 (HS-14), Chargers, Naval Air Station (NAS) Atsugi, Japan, discharges countermeasure flares. Flares are part of the aircraft’s defense against surface-to-air and air-to-air infra-red (IR) heat-seeking missile attacks. The heat created by the flare will hopefully burn hotter than the aircraft engine and attract the incoming missile away from the aircraft. SH-60H Seahawk launches flares
