It was followedat n a. m. by the third battalion and at 12 115 p. m. by the second battalion,both of which underwent a variety of vicissitudes. On the right, the 132ndInfantry was equally successful, and at 10 a. m. had reached its objectivesouth of the 131st, having covered five kilometers and performed the remark-able feat of driving the enemy out of the Bois de Forges, and, incidentally,having just failed to capture the German commander there. The achievement ofthe Sixty-sixth InfantryBrigade was little shortof astounding. The care-fully thought-out planswere followed with re-markable precision. Approximately 1,400 German officers and men were madeprisoners, and the captures included 7 pieces of heavy and 12 of light artillery,10 trench mortars and 161 machine guns. These results, together with thetaking of the Bois de Forges—one of the most formidable positions in theentire Verdun sector—in three hours and thirty-three minutes after jumpingoff, were eftected with a loss limited to
