The identification as Grotius at a younger age is based on a portrait engra of Jacob de Gheyn (II) from 1599, see collection Rijksmuseum RP-P-OB-9953 and the fact that in early descriptions of the Panpoëticon Batavum there is a portrait of Hugo Grotius young leeftijd.
