Verrill records taking the young in surface tow in early September. According to Moore (MS.), it breeds throughout the summer, but fully mature individuals are most frequently obtained in August in both atokous and epitokous states (in the latter condition, setae are longer, more numerous and spread- ing). Material examined.—Numerous specimens from Massachusetts (Woods Hole region, Nantucket Sound, Elizabeth Islands), Rhode Island, Long Island Sound, Maryland (Chesapeake Bay), Virginia (Chincoteague Bay), North Carolina (Beaufort), South Carolina.
