A German "Landsknecht" dagger,circa 1540/50. Double-edged blade,strongly ridged on both sides. Short,grooved quillons with a small guard plate on one side. Fluted hardwood grip. Flat pommel with cut decoration. Wood lined,sheet iron scabbard with openwork decoration backed with rayskin on the obverse side. There are two bodkins sheathed on the front,one with the eye of a needle. Slanted suspension loop on the back.
