Emile Zola by Édouard Manet 1832 – 1883 France French
Édouard Manet (January 23, 1832 – April 30, 1883) was a French painter. His early masterworks The Luncheon on the Grass and Olympia engendered great controversy, and served as rallying points for the young painters who would create Impressionism--today they are considered watershed paintings which mark the genesis of modern art. One of the first 19th century artists to approach modern-life subjects, his art bridged the gap between Realism and Impressionism. Emile Zola by Manet
