Cosmic ray event. July 1, 1960. One of the most powerful, and mysterious, forms of energy we know are cosmic rays-the high speed particles or bursts of radiation which constantly bombarded the Earth from outer space. Fortunately most of them break up when they collide with the upper atmosphere. Some of those which reach the surface have been recorded by the vapor trails they leave in bubble chambers. Bubble Chamber-924. A bubble chamber is a vessel filled with a superheated transparent liquid (most often liquid hydrogen) used to detect electrically charged particles moving through it.
