WESLEV CHEW. 1887 THANKSGIVING DAY—ANNIVERSARY 311 Equestrian Statue of Gen. George Gordon Meade, in West Fair-mount Park. The Battalion paraded in full strength. On November 24th, Thanksgiving Da}, the Battalion assembledin dress uniform and accompanied by the Metropolitan Band, theyparaded down Broad Street and in front of the Union League, per-formed the ceremony of evening parade. They then marched downChestnut Street to 5th, to Market, to Broad, to the Armory. Allalong the route they were greeted with applause. On February 6th. 1888, occurred the first of a series of ballsgiven by the Battalion at the Academy of Music. The buildingwas decorated with tropical plants and the balconies with buntingand National colors. Invited guests from all parts of the countrywere present.
