An opinion was about this time also prevalent inEurope, which made these pilgrimages much more fre-quent than formerly : it was imagined that the 1006years mentioned in Rev. xx. were fulfilled; thatChrist was soon to make his appearance in Palestineto judge the world; and consequently that journeysto that country were in the highest degree merito-rious, and even absolutely necessary.
