Synonym: G. hortense Nees Caricature Plant "Cafe con Leche," "Cafe de Jardm" (fig. 43) Acanthaceae The caricature plant comes from New Guinea, The plant is well established in many warmer sections of the world. The name Graptophyllum is derived from two Greek words meaning writ- ing and leaf referring to the endless variations in the yellow-white markings on the leaves. Some strains also have red variegations. In partial shade it tends to be somewhat spindly, but in the open it forms an attractive spreading shrub reaching a height of 8 to 10 feet.
