The caber toss is the highland games signature event, but most Americans don't know that it's not scored on distance, but on direction. If one thinks of the competitor as standing at 6 o'clock, a perfect throw leaves the (approximately) 150-pound caber lying with the heavy end in the middle of the clock face and the tip at 12 o'clock.
