Agricultural pest research. Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata, lower centre) being offered a choice between a chemical attractant (test-tube, right) and potato leaf aromas (test-tube, left). The beetle is moving toward the attractant. Colorado potato beetles and their larvae are a serious insect pest of potatoes and other crops. This research is helping to develop methods of reducing the destruction of such crops by these beetles.
