AMES W. PERRY. Prominent among theold settlers of Shiawassee County is thisgentleman who makes his home in VernonTownship on section 4. He was born inCortland County, N. Y., July 5, 1822, and is nownearing the completion of his three-score years andten. His father, William Perry, was born in Con-cord, Mass., and came to the Empire State when aboy of about thirteen years. He married RachaelHamilton, a native of New York, and they took uptheir home there never coming West. The fatherdied when he was about lifty-nine years old. Hewas a Whig in his juunger days and afterwardbecame a Democrat. Twelve sons and one daughter constituted thefamily of this worthj couple, ten of whom arenow living.
