It bears themarks of the great heat to which it has been exposed in the conflagration. As nothing similar to any one of these various articles of gold hasbeen ever found elsewhere, it will for ever remain a riddle to us whetherthey were home-made or imported; but if we compare them with the rudeworks of terra-cotta or the implements and weapons of stone or bronzefound in the third city, we certainly feel inclined to think that theywere imported.
