Until a few years ago Mr. Grantham carried on an ex- tensive contracting business. Then he laid in a small stock of lumber principally for his own use, and from this broadened out into operating a planing mill. Gradually various lines were ad- ded until now the firm can supply everything for building from cel- lar to the roof. Mr. Grantham has always been a believer in timely and effective advertising, and around his well-kept yards the name of the firm appears in large lett- ers Many novelties have been distributed through the mads and at rural fairs setting forth the fact that the business of John I. Grant- ham is that of supply builders with everything from foundation to rido-eboard Mr. Grantham makes some doors, sash and frames in his own plant but not to any great extent, for he purchases standard sizes in all these lines which he states, he can handle more advantageously. He says that he never makes anything that some other fellow can produce just as good in quality and cheaper than he can. He realizes that firms turning out quantity production of standard goods are m a portion to give better service and quotations than one who operates to a limited capacity. He, therefore, believes in stocking all ordinary requirements rather than making them John T.
