14/05/15 Yew Tree Well. To mark ascension day this year's well dressings are unveiled and blessed by the local clergy in the Derbyshire village of Tissington in the Peak District National Park. Before today's blessings, wooden boards coated in clay are decorated with tens of thousands of petals, leaves and pieces of foliage to create the giant intricate mosaics. The boards, take teams of many villagers three days to make. The village has been decorating its six wells every year for more than six hundred years. The tradition is believed to be a celebration of the wells never running dry, giving life and sustaining the village during times of plague. After a church service today (Thursday) clergy from six parish will bless each of the well. Following in Tissington's footsteps many other villages in the Derbyshire area also have their own well dressing traditions. All Rights Reserved: F Stop Press Ltd. +44(0)1335 418629
