As early as 1742 John Taylor built a forge on Chester creek,in Thornbury township, Delaware county, where (ilen Millsnow stand, which he called Sarum iron works. In 1746 he addeda rolling and slitting mill. These works are said to have beencarried on with energy by Mr. Taylor until his death in , writing about the time of Mr. Taylors death, says:Sarum belongs to Taylors heirs, has three stacks, and is in full 340. Peter Kalm, the Swede, inhis Travels into North America, written in 1748 and 1749,thus describes it: About two English miles behind Chester Ipassed by an iron forge, which was to the right hand by the roadside.
