It is an effort to make clearthe basic principles and to show that fundamental ideas areinvolved in famihar problems. While formulas and alge-braic methods are necessary aids to concise and formalpresentation, they are not essential to the expression of theprinciples and imderlying ideas of the Calculus. These canbe expressed in plain language without the use of symbols— one writer challenging the citing of a single instancewhere it cannot be done.
