Bewick's swans (Cygnus columbianus) on flooded water meadows. This species of holarctic swan breeds in Arctic regions including northern Russia, the Pacific, Alaska and Canada. It migrates to the Netherlands and the British Isles to avoid the harsh Arctic winter. While wintering, it feeds on agricultural crops due to the lack of aquatic vegetation in open water. Photographed in December on the Earith floods, part of the floodplain of the river Ouse, near Earith, Cambridgeshire, England.
