The Truckee and Carson rivers rise on theeastern slopes of the forest-clad Sierra NevadaMountains in California, and flow in a generalnortheasterly direction into Nevada. The drain-age basin of the former contains a number ofbeautiful lakes,—Lake Tahoe being the most im-portant,—all of which are to be utilized for floodstorage. In Nevada these rivers flow for somedistance parallel to each other, and at one pointnot more than twenty miles apart. The TruckeeRiver then veers sharply northward, emptying.
