Watergrove Reservoir Rochdale
Watergrove has spectacular views over Rochdale and towards Oldham which are best seen from the many footpaths that link into the national trail. The mixture of moorland, woodland, cloughs and water habitats mean that Watergrove is a nature spotters dream with wildfowl and raptors present and terrestrial wildlife common too in the Higher Slack Brook Nature Reserve on the reservoir inlet. The reservoir was built in the 1930’s and a number of artefacts from the submerged village of Watergrove can still be seen set into the reservoir embankment. The ruins of former farmhouses can still be seen higher up on the catchment.
