The old church, ruined in 1606, was rebuilt in 1637 and again in 1775 by Dr. Robert Graham of Netherby. The sundial is dedicated two Graham brothers who survived the Great War and is inscribed "1918 LUX POST UMBRAM" (Light after shadow). and around the circumfrence "FOR OUR TWO DEAR SONS FFG & RPG WHO LIVED TO COME HOME FROM THE GREAT WAR. THANKS BE TO GOD ALONE".
