Its fibers diverge, some joining the palato-pharyngeus to be inserted into the posterior border of the thyroidcartilage, and the rest mingling with the constrictors. The palato-pharyngeus forms the posterior pillar of the arises from the aponeurosis of the soft palate by two heads sepa-rated by the insertion of the levator palati.
