The 2019 Health of the Force report estimates 25 percent of Soldiers currently use one or more forms of tobacco including vapes, hookah and e-cigarettes, as well as traditional smoking tobacco (cigarettes, pipes, cigars) and “smokeless” tobacco like chew. Army Public Health Center experts say there is emerging evidence linking all of these products, including newer products like vapes and e-cigarettes, with increased risk of oral cancer.
