Surface of Bennu asteroid, OSIRIS-REx images. The Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith Explorer (OSIRIS-REx) spacecraft launched in 2016 and arrived at the asteroid 101955 Bennu in December 2018. As well as obtaining samples for return to Earth in 2023, it is studying the asteroid. This trio of images shows a wide shot and two close-ups of a region in the asteroid's northern hemisphere. The wide-angle image (left) was obtained by the spacecraft's MapCam camera. The two closer images were obtained by the high-resolution PolyCam camera. The boulder at top right is about 15 metres long. Images obtained on 25 February 2019.
