THE BATES STUDENT 5. Oliver F. Cutts Charles D. Hurrey Y. M. C. A. The Y. M. C. A. began the new year witha series of special meetings, which lasted fourdays, beginning Thursday evening, Jan. 9. Before the vacation committee were atwork making preparation for the meetings. On Wednesday, Jan. 8, Oliver F. Cutts,Bates, 96, Harvard Law, 03, who is nowinternational secretary of Y. M. C. A. foralumni work, arrived at Bates and opened thecampaign by conducting the chapel exercises. Wayne Jordan, Bates, 06, Rhodes Scholar,07-10, now Y. M. C. A. secretary for ruralwork at Newport, N. H., also arrived onWednesday, to assist in the campaign. Hurrey, executive secretary of the Stu-dent Association in North America, the prin-cipal speaker of the campaign, arrived atBates, Thursday noon. Wednesday evening, Jan. 8, at 6 oclock,the Setting Up banquet took place, at theMain Street Free Baptist Church. Therewere about seventy-five men present, includingthe faculty, Y. M. C.
