Standing at 17 feet 3 inches tall atop a substantial granite pedestal, the entire structure reaches a height of about 42 feet. The pedestal is adorned with bronze relief panels depicting scenes from Sherman's military campaigns and allegorical figures representing War and Peace. At each corner of the base are statues representing the four branches of the Army during the Civil War era: Infantry, Artillery, Cavalry, and Engineers.
