The next is a priors, Robert de Ewelmcs,or his successors, Alexander de Sutton. Between them they completed thetranslation of St. Frideswide. Further eastward is the tomb of Lady Elizabethde Montacute, who in 1340 gave the present Christ Church meadow to theconvent, in order to maintain a chantry in the Lady Chapel. There were great alterations late in the fifteenth century. The Perpen-dicular style was then extending its rigidrule over England, and various parts ofthe church were conformed to it. Thechoir clerestory was remodelled, and therich vaulting added; most of the win-dows of the aisles were altered, and thepresent cloisters were built. The greatwindow of the north transept is of theearly sixteenth century, with the woodenroof of the transept and tower; that ofthe nave is later.
