COMMERCIAL PROGRESS. On the commercial side, the progress is alsoremarkable. In 1853 the exports from the Port ofAuckland were valued at £148,724, and the imi)orts£253,920. In 1861 the exports had shrunk to £57,673,while the impoils had incieased to £591,168. Theseabnormal figures were due to the wars with the years later the exports reached beyond themillion mark, being £1,601,763, as against £937,655of imports.
