This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product MTG-S and MTG-I satellites, illustration. These satellites are part of the Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) satellite network. There will be four MTG-I imaging and two MTG-S sounding satellites. The first imager satellite (in the background) is scheduled to be launched in 2018, with the first sounder satellite following in 2020. Following on from the Meteosat Second Generation satellites, MTG is a cooperative venture between Eumetsat and ESA, and will ensure continuity of high-resolution meteorological data to beyond 2038 from geostationary orbit.
