Hailes Old Church, Winchcombe, Cheltenham Gloucestershire, Small Norman church founded C12th, poss. by Ralph de Worcester in time of King Stephen c. 1139-51. Some say founded c. 1135 but not consecrated until 1175 because of a dispute with the Abbot of Winchcombe finally settled by a papal bull in favour of the Abbot. It later served as the capella ante portas (Latin for chapel outside the gates) to the Abbey until the Abbey's dissolution in 1539. The church is a Grade I listed building. The rose bushes in the churchyard were removed before 1999
