On the 4th of March we reached French Gulfei,opposite the German station of the same name. Itwas not long before Djagara paid me a visit. It washis first entrance into French territory since itsannexation by Europeans; perhaps the crafty oldscoundrel hoped by his pompous bearing to win backsome of his deserting Kotokos. French Gulfei is a small uninteresting village, notto be compared with the station on the German side.
