Argo Navis constellation. 13th-century Islamic manuscript illustration of the constellation of Argo Navis (later split into Carina, Puppis, Pyxis, and Vela). Stars are marked with yellow circles. The constellation is shown as mirror images to show it both as it appears on a celestial globe, and as it appears in the night sky. The text is in Arabic. This manuscript page is from 'Suwar al-kawakib' (1417), a later copy of a work commonly known as 'Book of the Fixed Stars'. This work was originally written in around 964 by the 10th-century Persian Islamic astronomer Abd al-Rahman al-Sufi.
