In Greek mythology, Chiron, considered the oldest and wisest of the Centaurs, tutored young Jason.
In Greek mythology, Chiron (also spelled Cheiron) was considered the oldest and wisest of the Centaurs, a tribe of beings that were half-horse and half men. Among Chiron's pupils was Jason, whose father Aeson (and also, according to some writers, his mother) had asked Chiron to tutor him and oversee his education. In this illustration dating to 1901, Chiron stands by Jason and watches him, for he knew that the time had come for Jason to win back the throne that had been taken from his father by his uncle Pelias.
