The earth seems to us flatinstead of round, because itis so large, and we are soclose to it, that we can seebut a small j)art of it. A perfectly roundbody is called a S2:)here. Hemisphere means• half a sphere, and as the earth is nearly asphere, a map or picture of half the earth iscalled a map or picture of a hemisphere.
