At sub-station No. 5, where a storage battery is employedthat involved the use of two 162-kw booster generators, eachdriven by a 235-hp induction motor, there is provided a bankof three 200-kw air-blast transformers, affording sufficientcapacity not only for operating the battery boosters underthe maximum conditions of load, but also for simultaneouslystarting one rotary converter without dropping the secondaryvoltage of the transformers sufficiently to affect the boosterregulation.
