Whenever a car in service is stopped, the motorman will, assoon as he is ready to go forward, givetwo taps of the gong, after which, if theconductor is ready to proceed, he willgive the regular go ahead signal—twobells. The motorman will answer the signalto stop from conductor by one loud tapof gong and two loud taps of gong afterreceiving the signal to go ahead. If un-able to proceed immediately upon re-ceipt of signal motorman will wait forfor another go ahead signal beforestarting the car. When, the car is standing and motor-man desires to back, for any reason, hewill give the conductor four bells, butmust not move the car until the con-ductor has answered with four bells tosignify all is clear behind. 39.
