The Smith’s Arms at Godmanstone, Dorset, England, UK. (Now closed) Circa 1980's
This Inn was the smallest public house in England and was originally a blacksmith’s shop. King Charles II. stopped here to have his horse shod but when he asked for a drink the blacksmith replied, “I have no licence, sire”, so there and then he was granted one. The building dates from the 15th century. It was run as a pub for many years by a brewery and was then sold, becoming a free house. This continued until just a few years ago when the last owner, a top jockey, became too ill to run it and it closed its doors for the last time.
