For Christmas Podesta & Baldocchi had a fine lot of azaleas from P. Fer- rari's nursery, and Mr. Podesta says they sold every one of them. Other sea- sonable stock also was in splendid de- mand here, making it a most satisfac- tory holiday season. Pelicano, Rossi & Co., according to Frank Pelicano, had the biggest Christ- mas business in their history, and the holiday falling on Monday distributed the rush over three days and facilitated deliveries. This firm made a specialty of mixed flowering plant baskets, which took exceptionally well. They had about 100 dozen lily of the valley, and these were readily snapped up. Potted cocks- comb sold well, as did cyclamens, prim- ulas and begonias. The sale of the latter was not urged here, however, as the plants are easily broken in delivery. J. Eppstein, of the Art Floral Co., says his company sold out its Christmas stock and could have used larger quantities of certain kinds of flowers. For instance, the company was out of orchids two days before Christmas; violets were short and short deliveries were made on some kinds of plants. This concern received about forty dozen valley, for which it received an average of $ and $2 per dozen, a high price here. Avansino Bros, are well satisfied with their first Christmas business, as they provided a large stock and sold out com- pletely. They say the demand was for good stock, prices apparently being no object. This concern expected a nice lot of azaleas for New Year's, as they were a little late for Christmas.
