In the late 70s and early 80s, Tokai, like many others, copied Leo Fender's famous Stratocaster design. Unlike many others, however, they bettered Fender's craftmanship and created some truly beautiful instruments. The Tokai strats are often referred to as 'lawsuit' guitars, a handle apparently derived from the reaction of Fender's lawyers who discovered that these Japanese guitars were slightly better than the originals! The use of a very similar headstock logo was stopped following the threat of legal action. This one is from my own collection - a 1981 Silver Star in 'Candy Apple' red.
